Solar Power Just in Time for Christmas: 800 watts of brand new Evergreen PV Panels will work to keep this off-grid powered home (pdf) bright and cheerful this holiday season! The previous owner took the panels with him when he sold the property. The new owners called Saco Solar to investigate their options while increasing the output. At the end of the day, one happy, satisfied customer left smiling.

Another Home Goes Off Grid: This system will eventually relocate to the Earthen House under construction. The temporary bad installation was needed to power the 32' Coachman mobile home to provide housing for the owners while their new home is being built.

Solar Power in Casco Bay: Just back from a couple days on an island in Casco Bay - Overset Island, which is sort of an annex to Long Island. It was the kind of place you dream of. You just had to stop every now and look around and soak it in a bit.

The totally off-grid system includes: 6 - 225 Watt Schott modules, Magnum MS4448PAE Inverter, TriStar MPPT 60 charge controller, 8 Fullriver DC400-6 sealed batteries and an Air-X 400 Watt Marine.

We designed the rugged coastal racking using 1/4" thick aluminum 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" L-rail, 316 grade stainless hardware. All bolts had neoprene stainless washers and all nuts were coated with anti-galling compound.

The decks are incredibly rugged by the homeowner's builder. In addition to attaching the Unirac L-feet with 3 1/2" SS GRK structural bolts we added more to further attach the decking solidly to the 4"x6" stringers & frame. "It ain't going anywhere."

I had a great time with Paul Skarmos, a renowned, coastal carpenter/builder who helped with the racking and panels along with getting the batteries (120 lbs. each) moved and into place.
